About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist/Research Nurse to join our team at Sussex Community NHS Trust. As a Heart Valve Specialist Nurse, you will play a critical role in delivering high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of evidence-based clinical nursing practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver Specialist Nursing Input: Work as part of the TAVI and valve team to provide specialist nursing care for patients in the acute and clinic setting.
  • Manage Caseload: Independently manage a complex caseload of patients at various stages of the TAVI/Valve pathway.
  • Provide Education and Support: Ensure patients undergoing TAVI and valve surgery are supported by providing clinical and educational information, as well as counseling them and their families throughout their journey.
  • Collaborate with Healthcare Teams: Work closely with all healthcare teams to increase knowledge and facilitate the care of TAVI and valve patients in primary and secondary care.
  • Contribute to Clinical Research: Assist in the development of evidence-based clinical nursing practice in line with current research and guidelines.
Requirements
  • Current Registration: Current First Level Nursing and Midwifery Council Registration or other relevant professional qualification dependent on discipline.
  • Advanced Life Support Certificate: Possession of an Advanced Life Support Certificate.
  • Postgraduate Qualifications: Postgraduate qualification in Clinical Assessment Skills in Medicine and/or a Postgraduate Cardiac Course/Module.
  • Independent Non-Medical Prescribing: Possession of Independent Non-Medical Prescribing qualification.
  • MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice: Possession of an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice.
Experience
  • Autonomous Practice: Experience of working autonomously in a cardiac specialist nurse role at least band 6 level.
  • Teaching and Supervision: Substantial experience of teaching and supervising junior staff.
  • TAVI and Valve Experience: Experience working with TAVI and valve patients.
  • Acute Cardiac Setting: Experience working in an acute cardiac setting.
  • Heart Failure Experience: Experience caring for heart failure patients.
Skills and Knowledge

  • Teaching Skills: Teaching skills.

  • Complex Caseload Management: Able to manage a complex caseload of patients at various stages of the TAVI/Valve pathway.
  • Excellent IT Skills: Excellent IT skills, with the ability to use spreadsheets.
  • Staff Management: Management and development of staff.
  • Clinical Research and Audit: Previous clinical research and audit experience.
  • Team Management: Proven management of teams in a healthcare setting.
