Cost Consultant Required

The Role


As a Cost Consultant, you will be employed by a reputable Maintenance and Refurbishment Contractor. Your primary responsibility will be to oversee a contract from inception to completion, collaborating with the operational team, preparing quotations, sourcing and managing subcontractors, measuring completed works, and navigating the application process. Experience in resolving disputes will be beneficial.

While familiarity with an open book or target cost pricing model is advantageous, it is not a prerequisite.

This position encompasses projects throughout the region, managing a total project value of up to £5 million annually, focusing on responsive, voids, compliance, and capital works.

Key Responsibilities


• Oversee the daily commercial management of assigned contracts, including cost modeling, invoicing, cost reconciliation, and supply chain management, along with comprehensive reporting duties.

• Achieve results through effective procurement and management of subcontractors.

• Measure completed works utilizing Standard Operating Rates (SoRs) and basket rates for planned tasks.

• Ensure the timely and precise preparation and submission of applications, invoices, and final accounts.

• Engage in commercial negotiations with clients to finalize values for completed works.


• Manage the commercial reporting for your assigned contracts, including Cost Value Reconciliation (CVR) reviews and monthly updates to senior management and the Board as necessary.

• Ensure accurate allocation of job costs, including timesheets, purchase invoices, and subcontractor expenses.


• Communicate with both internal and external clients regarding your contracts, preparing and presenting all required reports and documentation as needed.

• Actively manage margins in line with business targets and expectations.


Managing the Process


• Participate in monthly Regional Review Meetings.


• Consistently provide timely and accurate documentation related to contract reporting structures, invoices, applications, and commercial performance analysis.

• Develop and manage all aspects of contract cost models.


• Implement effective cost control procedures.

• Ensure the administration of subcontract agreements is optimized at all times.


• Manage final accounts in a timely, commercial, and constructive manner.


• Support the Operational Lead and Commercial Manager with detailed information and updates as required.


• Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures regarding Health, Safety, Environment, IT, and Human Resources.


• Deliver all reporting and commercial analysis relevant to an Open Book/Target Cost Model as necessary.


• Prepare and present pricing and analysis to senior management and clients.


• Manage cash flow forecasting for assigned contracts.


Technical Skills and Knowledge


• Knowledge of Standard Operating Rates, Open Book, and Cost Plus pricing models is beneficial but not mandatory.

• Develop commercial strategies and innovations to maximize profit and cash management.


• Understanding of claims and dispute resolution processes.

• Ability to prepare and interpret financial reports.


• Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize effectively.

• Familiarity with subcontract orders and an understanding of procurement and estimating processes.


• Knowledge of management accounts and forecasting.


• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
