Position Overview

We are pleased to present an opportunity for a Nursing Associate to become part of our esteemed Continence Promotion Service. This role focuses on delivering expert continence management to adult patients within the community. If you possess a strong interest in bladder and bowel health and are eager to contribute positively, this position allows you to enhance your skills and knowledge in this vital area of healthcare while receiving support from experienced colleagues. You will engage with patients of various ages, many of whom may self-refer, alongside those referred by other healthcare professionals. The role is diverse, requiring independent work in clinics, residential facilities, and patients' homes, where you will provide assessments, guidance, and treatments for individuals experiencing bladder and bowel issues.

Key Responsibilities

As a Nursing Associate, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering specialized continence nursing care under the supervision of the Continence Service Leader and Team Leads.
  • Providing evidence-based, holistic care to patients and their caregivers, focusing on the promotion of effective continence management.
  • Conducting assessments, treatments, and follow-ups for patients with bladder and bowel symptoms in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Performing diagnostic procedures such as ultrasound bladder scanning, urine analysis, and pelvic floor muscle assessments, ensuring competence at a specialist level.
  • Managing a caseload of clients requiring specialized continence nursing care.
  • Collaborating with partner organizations to plan and implement care strategies that promote continence management.

Our Continence Promotion Service is dedicated to providing high-quality continence management to adult patients in the community. You will receive the necessary training and mentorship to develop your skills before taking on independent responsibilities.

Job Duties

  • Acquire and demonstrate the clinical skills essential for the role, including continence assessments, conservative management techniques, bladder scanning, and the fitting of urinary and bowel aids.
  • Take responsibility for evaluating patients' continence needs and implementing appropriate treatment plans or product provisions in various settings.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and their families, including those with communication challenges.
  • Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients and caregivers, fostering motivation and confidence.
  • Share information and collaborate with team members and integrated care partners.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential Qualifications

  • Registered Nursing Associate with NMC Registration.
  • Completion of a Nursing Associate Foundation Degree.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Capacity to handle the unpredictable nature of the workload and individual patient interactions.
