Role Overview
Exciting developments are underway in East Devon, presenting a unique opportunity to contribute to the future of the district through your role at Devon County Council. With plans for over 18,000 new residences by 2040, alongside significant employment and regeneration initiatives, this position allows you to play a crucial role in shaping key development projects.
As the Senior Planning Officer, you will lead one of the three area Development Management teams, which includes planning officers and an enforcement officer. This team is responsible for a diverse array of commercial and residential planning applications and investigations. Your leadership will ensure high-quality development throughout the district, facilitating timely processing of applications while delivering exceptional customer service. Your responsibilities will encompass mentoring and developing your team, managing substantial planning applications, conducting site visits and inspections, and engaging in negotiations with agents. With a strong commitment to the local community, you will align your efforts with the broader strategic goals of the Council to achieve meaningful outcomes for East Devon.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will possess a postgraduate qualification in Planning and substantial experience in development management, complemented by RTPI membership. You will demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the planning framework, paired with outstanding leadership and communication abilities. A proven history of coaching, relationship-building, and collaborative service delivery is essential. You are an influential, organized, and credible professional who thrives on challenges, consistently achieving excellent results and proactively driving initiatives forward. A valid driving license is required, with the ability to travel as necessary (reasonable adjustments may be accommodated in accordance with the Equality Act).
