Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Consultant Liaison Psychiatrist to join our team at The Royal Marsden Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated professional to make a significant impact in the field of psycho-oncology.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing clinical leadership to the general liaison psychiatry service at The Royal Marsden Hospital.
  • Undertaking direct clinical care of patients with complex physical and psychiatric co-morbidities related to cancer diagnosis or treatment.
  • Providing clinical supervision to other team members and contributing to the weekly multidisciplinary meeting.
  • Working closely with medical and clinical oncologists, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless care for patients.
  • Assessing and managing risk of harm to self and others, as well as diagnosing and treating psychiatric disorders in adults.
  • Developing and implementing effective treatment plans, including the use of psychotropic medication in the context of physical illnesses and their treatment.
  • Collaborating with other services to provide comprehensive care for patients with complex needs.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A primary medical degree and MRCPsych or equivalent qualification.
  • Full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and a licence to practise.
  • Section 12 Approval and registration as a Responsible Clinician as specified by the Mental Health Act.
  • Experience in liaison psychiatry, with a proven track record in clinical leadership and team management.
  • Excellent communication and empathic skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Commitment to personal and professional development, with a willingness to participate in training and education.
