Youth Support Advocate
Are you skilled in assisting young individuals facing intricate challenges and behavioral issues? Do you hold the belief that every young person possesses the potential to learn, irrespective of their circumstances? If so, you could play a pivotal role in transforming the lives of marginalized and excluded youth.
In this role, you will engage with students who have struggled to maintain their positions in traditional educational settings, particularly those with complex behavioral and additional learning requirements. Your advocacy will focus on our most at-risk learners, especially those in care or previously in care, while motivating them to pursue their educational goals.
Collaborating closely with the Headteacher and educational staff, you will evaluate each student's educational, emotional, and behavioral needs, subsequently creating customized support plans. These plans may encompass individual sessions, group activities, family outreach, and various interventions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing leadership and support for staff and students during duty periods.
- Assisting staff in developing behavior management strategies and conducting risk assessments.
- Overseeing the documentation of behavioral data, including physical interventions and duty calls.
- Coordinating and delivering targeted support, advice, guidance, and mentoring for learners tailored to their specific needs.
- Building strong collaborative relationships with various stakeholders, including Social Services, Youth Offending Teams, law enforcement, parents, and community organizations.
- Facilitating reintegration, restorative practices, and class meetings to address and mitigate harm caused by students, including issues related to relationships and bullying.
Qualifications:
- A relevant professional qualification (NVQ level 2) in youth work, education, social work, counseling, or mentoring.
- Level 2 proficiency in English and Mathematics.
You should possess a proven track record in assessing complex family dynamics and implementing effective strategies. A comprehensive understanding of social inclusion, behavioral management techniques, and child development theories is essential.
Effective communication skills with colleagues, parents, and external agencies are crucial, along with the organizational abilities to manage a demanding caseload while maintaining precise records and preparing written reports. Above all, you should share our commitment to achieving positive outcomes for vulnerable young individuals.
Experience:
- Experience working with young people and families facing social, emotional, and behavioral challenges.
- Ability to establish sustainable relationships with young individuals and their families.
- Experience in assessing family situations and needs to create and implement effective strategies, risk assessments, and individualized educational support plans.
- Familiarity with various issues impacting young people and their families, such as substance abuse, domestic violence, and educational exclusions.
- Utilizing a holistic, person-centered approach when collaborating with multi-professional teams and agencies.
- Managing complex cases across various levels of need.
Additional Information:
Salary: £26,001
This position is subject to an Enhanced DBS check. All candidates must provide proof of their right to work in the UK, and those who have lived abroad will need to obtain overseas police clearance.
