About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Clinical Coder to join our team at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. As a Senior Clinical Coder, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and quality of clinical coding data, supporting the development of coding policies and procedures, and mentoring junior coders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Abstract, analyze, and translate complex medical patient care records into diagnostic and procedural coding using national coding classifications.
  • Manage time effectively and support the department in all aspects of day-to-day clinical coding practice, including accurate data extraction using the Trust's Electronic Patient Record system.
  • Develop and implement locally agreed changes to coding rules and ensure team members follow suit.
  • Support Clinical Coding Manager with Clinical Coding reviews and audits, and participate in complex audits of own work and junior coders.
  • Provide timely and accurate coded data in accordance with Trust and national deadlines, and maintain an up-to-date knowledge of national and local clinical coding guidance and requirements.
Requirements
  • Accredited Clinical Coding Qualification (NCCQ)
  • NHS Clinical Coding Experience
  • Excellent knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy & physiology
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team, with excellent analytical skills and ability to analyze complex clinical records.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of clinical coding rules and conventions, with ability to provide support and advise colleagues on coding matters.
