About the Competition & Markets Authority (CMA)
The CMA is dedicated to fostering competition that benefits consumers, both domestically and internationally. Our goal is to ensure that markets function effectively for consumers, businesses, and the economy.
Role Responsibilities
As an Administrative Support Apprentice, you will be instrumental in facilitating the execution of tasks across various directorate groups within the CMA. This apprenticeship includes the Microsoft Data Essentials Level 3 program.
You will be part of teams such as The Consumer Protection Group, Mergers Team, and The Advocacy, Public Policy and International (APPI) team. Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing stakeholder engagement support throughout the UK, which involves organizing meetings, disseminating key announcements, and maintaining updated stakeholder lists.
- Collecting and managing essential management information, including the team's project portfolio.
- Collaborating with APPI management on team management tasks, such as budget planning and oversight, business continuity strategies, and managing the team’s SharePoint and intranet resources.
- Coordinating meetings, which includes scheduling, room bookings, agenda preparation, and taking minutes as necessary.
Apprentices will enhance their information management, organizational, and communication abilities. This role uniquely allows for broader organizational insight due to the cross-departmental support provided by APPI.
Apprenticeship Details
The role includes the completion of the Microsoft Data Essentials Level 3 apprenticeship, which offers a flexible and blended learning experience. Participants will apply technical data solutions to real-world scenarios, gaining valuable workplace skills. Key modules encompass:

- From Data to Insight
- Improving Data Quality
- Statistics for Decision-Making
- Storytelling and Visualisation
- From Data Citizen to Data Specialist
Core Entry Requirements
To qualify for the apprenticeship program, candidates must:
- Have resided in the UK and/or EU for three years prior to the start date.
- Confirm that this apprenticeship will provide substantial new skills and knowledge.
- Not possess an equivalent or higher-level qualification in a digital or data-related field.
- Not hold a qualification higher than a Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in any subject.
- Not be currently enrolled in another apprenticeship.
There is no upper age limit for apprenticeships, making this program suitable for individuals seeking to initiate a new career or enhance their qualifications for career advancement.
Essential Skills and Attributes
Applicants must demonstrate evidence and examples for the following criteria:
- Strong administrative and organizational skills, with the ability to manage workloads and prioritize effectively to meet deadlines.
- Proficient use of Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
