About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Consultant Medical Oncologist to join our team at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust (279). The successful candidate will have a strong interest in Lung Cancer, Skin Cancers, and Oncotoxicity (including immunotherapy toxicity).

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality clinical care to patients with cancer, including regular outpatient clinics, MDM attendance, SACT prescribing and oversight, clinical supervision of non-medical staff, clinical governance, service developments, ward reviews, and on-call duties.
  • Contribute to the development of the oncology service, including participation in multidisciplinary team meetings, clinical governance, and service improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in teaching and supervision of medical students, junior medical staff, and AHP/nurses, and contribute to the development of educational programs for trainees at all grades.
  • Engage in clinical research and audit, and contribute to the development of research projects and initiatives within the trust.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in the Lung and Skin site reference group, and participate in the Oncotoxicity and Immunotherapy Service (OTIS) focused on the delivery of outpatient support, ambulatory care, and pan-organisational education and research.
Requirements
  • Basic medical degree
  • MB BS, FRCR or appropriate specialist qualification
  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
  • CCT in clinical oncology or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
  • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Higher degree
  • Breadth of experience in and outside specialty
  • Experience and ability to work in multi-professional teams
  • Understanding of NHS/clinical governance/resource constraints
  • Managerial skills: achievements/course attended
  • Research experience
