Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Research Assistant to join our progressive and vibrant R&D team at NELFT North East London Foundation Trust. This role would perfectly suit an Assistant Psychologist looking to gain research experience and contribute to the development of a post-diagnostic intervention to support people newly diagnosed with dementia.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide oversight and management of all research activities for the 'No-one left to cope alone' study at NELFT.
  • Underpin the day-to-day operations of the research and contribute to the administrative aspects of the research governance processes.
  • Work closely with the Principal Investigator, Patient and Public Involvement Lead, and Sponsor to ensure cohesive and efficient research processes.
  • Support all stages of the project, including working with the Principal Investigator to obtain NHS ethical approval, and leading data collection for two qualitative studies.
  • Liaise with our wider project team and Patient and Public Involvement group, attending meetings to feedback on data collection.
  • Play a key role in the write-up and dissemination of findings, contributing to high-profile academic publications.
Person Specification
  • Qualifications:
    • BSc degree in a relevant subject or relevant MSc conversion degree if BSc is in an unrelated area.
    • MSc degree in a relevant subject (desirable).
  • Experience:
    • Experience of working with people with dementia and/or mental health problems.
    • Experience of working on own initiative, managing and prioritising own workload.
    • Previous experience of working in the NHS or other large organisation.
    • Understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with dementia.
    • Understanding of research methodologies relevant for the post.
    • Ability to summarise, document, report and reflect on progress.
    • Ability to work appropriately with confidential information.
    • Experience of working in a health research or academic setting.
    • Previous experience of acting on complex information in either the NHS or other organisations.
    • Track record of delivering successful projects and communications.
  • Knowledge:
    • Understanding of the NHS environment and current changes in the organisation and management structures of the NHS.
    • Knowledge of relevant legislation and NHS policies Mental Capacity Act.
    • Awareness of key research processes.
  • Skills:
    • Ability to communicate clearly with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Excellent telephone skills to be able to work with research participants and their carers/relatives.
    • Ability to produce/draft correspondence.
    • Evidence of good organisational skills and ability to work without direct supervision, prioritising own workload to meet tight deadlines.
    • Ability to work under pressure and assume responsibility and use initiative.
    • Evidence of good computer literacy skills.
    • Ability to use PC-based systems to form and produce information to an advanced level, specifically Word, Access, Outlook, Excel or other related computer packages.
    • Evidence of report writing and preparing presentations for dissemination.
    • High degree of interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise with a wide variety of people within and outside of the host organisation.
    • Ability to work unsupervised and provide advice and information based on sound judgement.
    • Ability to initiate and participate in the organisation of training programmes.
    • Able to complete assigned work in a timely manner and ability to work to deadlines.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills with a wide range of staff.
