Health Physics Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Health Physics Monitor to join our team at National Nuclear Laboratory. As a Health Physics Monitor, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety of our employees, the public, and the environment.
Your primary responsibility will be to provide expert advice on radiological protection, referring upwards where necessary and ensuring compliance with NNL and external requirements. You will also be responsible for producing survey sheets, reports, presentations, and data in an understandable manner to support NNL management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert advice on radiological protection, referring upwards where necessary.
- Produce survey sheets, reports, presentations, and data to support NNL management.
- Work with other specialists to share findings and identify trends to develop a holistic picture of issues, concerns, good practice, and areas for improvement in EHSS&Q culture and performance.
- Ensure that specialist advice provided is proportionate and ensures compliance with NNL and external requirements.
- Follow through on advice provided to ensure it is implemented in a way that provides a suitable solution to the original problem identified.
- Attend all training courses to maintain a high standard within the role of Health Physics Monitor.
- Provide an emergency response for Health Physics matters.
- Report issues and behaviors that cause concern in the workplace.
Requirements:
- City and Guilds Level 1 in Radiation Protection or NVQ Level 2 in Radiation Protection.
- Experience working as a Health Physics Monitor in a nuclear facility.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017, Environmental Permitting Regulations (amended) 2011, and Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
- Ability to obtain SC level security clearance.
Desirable Criteria:
- IOSH working safely.
- Experience of NNL Central Lab, Windscale Operations, or equivalent SL plant.
- Good influencing, presentational, and communication skills.
- Attention to detail and the ability to interpret regulations.
