About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Registered Health Play Specialist to join our team at University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust. As a Deputy Lead for our Health Play Service, you will play a vital role in supporting patients receiving high dependency care and reducing anxiety surrounding hospital treatment and procedures.

Main Responsibilities
  • Support patients receiving high dependency care and create an age-appropriate environment within the unit.
  • Facilitate therapeutic interventions to a caseload of patients with complex medical health needs.
  • Work as part of a supportive team where play and recreation are valued and respected as an integrated part of children/young people's treatment.
  • Contribute to the patient's pathway and work effectively with multiple professional teams and across hospital locations.
Requirements
  • Registered & qualified Health Play Specialist holding the Foundation Degree in Health Care Play Specialism or previous HPSC/HPSEB, Edexcel PDC/HND in Hospital Play Specialism or equivalent.
  • Extensive post-qualifying, comprehensive experience of working with children and/or young people in a healthcare setting, in a variety of clinical areas and/or extensive experience in a specialised field, including individual and group work.
  • Advanced theoretical understanding of and ability to manage & apply therapeutic play interventions for children and young people experiencing difficulties during hospitalisation in specialised areas including preparation, distraction therapy and post-procedural play.
