Role Overview

NFU Mutual's Underwriting Division is excited to present an opportunity for a seasoned expert to step into the role of Senior Engineering Risk Underwriter on a fixed-term contract basis. This position is crucial for supporting the company's strategic growth initiatives. There is potential for this role to transition into a permanent position for the right individual.

This is an opportune moment to become part of our team as we broaden our commercial offerings, leveraging our unique mutual approach that emphasizes trust, enduring relationships, and a customer-centric philosophy.

As a Senior Engineering Risk Underwriter, you will be responsible for formulating and advancing the underwriting strategy for our Engineering Insurance products. This includes establishing suitable guidelines, terms, and risk parameters that align with our profit and growth objectives while managing insurance risks in accordance with our overarching underwriting strategy.
You will collaborate with our Propositions team and other key stakeholders to define our growth targets and risk appetite. Key responsibilities include:

Converting underwriting appetite into practical guidelines, processes, and communications for NFU Mutual Agents and Underwriters to facilitate effective risk management and optimize sales performance. Evaluating and providing expert insights on risk rates to ensure they are informed by comprehensive insurance and market knowledge. Gathering and analyzing management data to pinpoint opportunities for enhancing our underwriting strategy and ensuring alignment with current and prospective business needs.

Please note that this position is internally referred to as Class Underwriter – Line of Business.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for a professional with extensive Underwriting or Brokerage experience in Engineering Breakdown Insurance. You should possess strong technical skills, excellent communication abilities, and the capacity to build and maintain impactful relationships. A proactive approach and a drive for continuous improvement are essential.

Additional qualifications include:

Experience in a head office environment, demonstrating strategic thinking and effective project management capabilities. In-depth knowledge of the Engineering Insurance sector and a solid understanding of the factors influencing its performance. Proficient negotiation skills and experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders. An effective communication style with the ability to convey information to various audiences. High data literacy and the capability to translate data into actionable strategies.

An ACII qualification is advantageous but not mandatory for this role.
