Position Overview

The Cancer Services division at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is on the lookout for dedicated professionals to fill the roles of both a part-time and a full-time Clinical Nurse Specialist within our Urology Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist Team.

We are in search of skilled and enthusiastic candidates to aid in the enhancement of our services, which will soon feature a new comprehensive diagnostic clinic for individuals with potential prostate cancer. This is a remarkable opportunity to contribute to the evolution and expansion of our service and to play a vital role in the delivery of an innovative care model.

Key Responsibilities

As a pivotal member of the Urology Cancer Multidisciplinary Team (MDT), you will deliver exceptional holistic care, treatment, education, health promotion, and support to both inpatients and outpatients dealing with urological cancer, while also providing assistance to their families and caregivers. You will serve as a knowledgeable resource for other healthcare professionals, offering guidance and insights on the management of urological cancer and the patient journey.

Qualifications and Skills

You will be expected to demonstrate a high level of independence and exhibit strong leadership capabilities. Advanced communication skills are essential, as you will need to convey complex and sensitive information effectively.

Required Qualifications

  • First level RGN registration.
  • Teaching qualification (e.g., ENB 998) or extensive experience in a relevant field.
  • Degree-level education.
  • Relevant post-registration qualifications in oncology, haematology, or palliative care.
  • Evidence of recent professional development.

Desired Qualifications

  • Education or progress towards a Master's degree.
  • Clinical Examination Module at Level 6/7 or willingness to pursue.
  • Psychological support training at Level 2.
  • Experience in registration.
  • Advanced communication skills.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential Knowledge

  • Experience in the healthcare sector with staff management responsibilities.
  • Up-to-date understanding of cancer, palliative care, and end-of-life issues.
  • Significant post-registration experience in oncology and caring for cancer patients.
  • Awareness of cancer patient and caregiver challenges and their role in service enhancement.
  • Evidence of innovation and change management.

Desirable Knowledge

  • Familiarity with achieving world-class cancer outcomes.
  • Understanding of strategies for improving cancer outcomes.
  • Knowledge of the NHS Long Term Plan 2022 and commissioning processes.

Essential Experience

  • Experience in Urology, Oncology, or Palliative Care.
