GSL Education is seeking dedicated Learning Support Assistants to provide assistance to children exhibiting challenging behaviors, which may stem from emotional, social, or mental health difficulties.

Many of the children and young individuals you will support may have experienced adverse childhood events, and your role will involve identifying their needs and risks, while collaborating with a network of senior staff members when necessary.


You will be part of a welcoming, dynamic, and innovative team.

Working within a provision focused on children's mental health, trauma, and neurodiversity can be demanding; together, we will explore and evaluate the various sectors to ensure we align with your aspirations.


Regardless of the path you choose, a genuine desire to support the learning of young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs through diverse, creative, visual, practical, and academic methods is essential.

The educational institution is interested in graduates from fields such as social sciences, youth studies, psychology, criminology, or related disciplines, but will also consider non-graduates, as qualities like sincerity, compassion, enthusiasm, and inspiration are equally valued.

Due to the vulnerability of some children, establishing trust may lead them to share personal experiences with you.

Your response to such disclosures is governed by the Keeping Children Safe in Education policy, and we can provide support to ensure you are well-informed about these regulations.

Being prepared to listen to your students as they express their feelings of disappointment with the adult world is crucial for building trust before focusing on their educational progress.

As a Learning Support Assistant in this environment, you will have the chance to gain valuable experience by working closely with various therapists, enhancing your knowledge and skill set, which is particularly beneficial if you aspire to become a psychotherapist in the arts or speech and language fields.


This role also presents an excellent opportunity for those aiming to become Occupational Therapists, Educational Psychologists, or Speech and Language Therapists.

A common challenge faced by many children and young people with special educational needs is marginalization, trauma, dysfunctional family dynamics, low academic achievement, and stigma.

Consequently, they encounter numerous obstacles in life and are at a higher risk of adverse outcomes.

You will play a vital role in providing stability and equipping children and young people with the tools they need to feel safe, secure, empowered, and confident in their ability to succeed in life.
