Position Overview

We are looking for a Software Engineering Lead to spearhead a newly established development team focused on our Data Platform. This role is designed to be hybrid, allowing flexibility in work arrangements.

The Data Platform Team transforms raw data into actionable insights that enhance our solutions and address critical challenges faced by our clients. Our mission is to combat fraud, mitigate risks, and foster a more equitable and inclusive society.

Utilizing our advanced big data platform (HPCC), the team develops features that are integrated into solutions through rapid data queries and a secure, high-performance API layer.

This position will be pivotal in guiding the team towards successful delivery of projects while directly overseeing a group of approximately 3 to 6 skilled Engineers.

Team Dynamics

Our development teams operate in a cross-functional and agile manner, enjoying a significant degree of autonomy. They align their efforts with the Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) established for the organization and define their own OKRs quarterly.

A typical team comprises Software Engineers, Quality Test Engineers, a Product Owner, and a Project Manager, along with the Software Engineering Lead. Each member brings a unique skill set and career stage, fostering an environment rich in learning and growth opportunities.

All teams benefit from a supportive network of peers and other disciplines, including Systems Architects and Site Reliability Engineers (SREs).

Key Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the successful delivery of projects, enabling team members to articulate requirements and execute them effectively.
  • Work closely with the Product Owner and Project Manager to ensure the team's efforts are aligned with customer needs and business priorities, refining tasks into actionable iterations.
  • Facilitate the professional development of team members, empowering them to excel in their roles and achieve their career aspirations.
  • Strive for engineering excellence by engaging with code when necessary and maintaining high-quality service for our clients.
  • Contribute to broader organizational initiatives, advocating for information security and promoting diversity and inclusion within our teams.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on technical experience in software development as part of a team, either as a Software Engineer or Quality Test Engineer. Familiarity with languages such as C++, Golang, and HPCC/ECL is advantageous, though not mandatory as training is provided.
  • Ability to guide the refinement of technical tasks into manageable components and validate the team's problem-solving approaches through collaboration.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to fostering a safe and inclusive work environment where all individuals can thrive.
  • Exhibit clear and prompt communication within the team and with stakeholders.
  • Mentor colleagues to help them realize their full potential.
