We are in search of a dedicated and skilled Culinary Specialist to become a vital member of our esteemed Catering Team. In this role, you will be instrumental in preparing wholesome and comforting meals for the children, young individuals, and families we serve, as well as for our committed staff and visitors.

About Our Organization

At Rainbows Hospice, our Catering Team takes pride in delivering fresh, home-style meals tailored to the needs of the children, young people, and families in our care. We also provide delicious and nutritious meals for our dedicated staff and visitors, fostering a warm and supportive environment for all. We recognize the significance of mealtime in creating a sense of home and care, which is why we prioritize the use of fresh ingredients while considering individual dietary needs, cultural preferences, and special dietary requirements.

Role Details

This position is based at our facility. The working hours are from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday, with weekend shifts required on a rotational basis. You will have two days off during the week if you work a weekend.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Preparing a comprehensive menu for families, children, and staff that reflects flexibility and sensitivity to dietary needs.
  • Collaborating with Care Team staff and families regarding special dietary requirements, considering cultural or religious preferences.
  • Maintaining the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) management system, ensuring compliance and high standards.
  • Ensuring all kitchen equipment is kept clean and safe, reporting any issues to the Catering Manager.
  • Planning for menu and food preparation in advance to cover for absences, coordinating with team members as necessary.

Essential Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 in Food Safety & Hygiene.
  • Experience in kitchen management.
  • Understanding of Food Safety Regulations.
  • Ability to prepare fresh meals from scratch using quality ingredients.
  • Knowledge of catering for special diets.

Desirable Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 in Food Safety & Hygiene or working towards this qualification.
  • Experience in catering for events.
  • Knowledge of allergies and intolerances.
  • High proficiency in desserts and cakes.
  • Familiarity with HACCP, COSHH, and Health and Safety regulations.
  • Understanding of dietary needs for patients with serious illnesses.
