About the Role

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health and Safety Manager to join our team at Dorset Council. As a key member of our Estates department, you will be responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of our employees, contractors, and the public.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement effective health and safety policies and procedures to minimize risks and ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Conduct regular site visits and inspections to identify potential hazards and take corrective action to mitigate risks.
  • Provide training and guidance to employees on health and safety procedures and best practices.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure a comprehensive approach to health and safety management.
  • Investigate incidents and near-misses to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including contractors and suppliers, to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.

Requirements:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent qualification in health and safety.
  • Proven experience in health and safety management, preferably in a local government or education setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with employees at all levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a flexible approach to work.
