We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Youth Mentor to join our team at Engage Education. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in supporting the personal and academic development of our students, aged 11-17, who have been excluded from mainstream schools.

Our students have diverse needs, including Autism, Learning Difficulties, and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges. We are committed to creating a nurturing and inclusive environment where every student can thrive.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individualised support to students, focusing on their academic, social, and emotional development.
  • Assist teachers in the classroom by providing support to students with their learning activities, ensuring they remain engaged and on task.
  • Help manage and positively influence student behaviour, using de-escalation techniques and promoting a respectful and supportive environment.
  • Work closely with students who have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP), ensuring their individual needs are met and progress is monitored.
  • Facilitate group sessions and activities designed to enhance students' social skills, self-esteem, and resilience.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with teachers, parents, and other professionals to ensure a holistic approach to student support.
  • Ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all students, promoting positive interactions and mutual respect.
  • Be prepared to handle crisis situations calmly and effectively, providing immediate support and guidance to students in distress.
Requirements
  • Experience working with young people, particularly those with Autism, Learning Difficulties, and SEMH needs.
  • Understanding of EHCPs and the ability to tailor support accordingly.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Patient, empathetic, and genuinely passionate about helping young people.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in youth work, education, or a related field (preferred but not essential).
  • Experience working in alternative education settings or with students who have been excluded from mainstream schools (preferred).
Why Engage Education?

We put the ambitions of our teachers first, ensuring you have the support to teach the way you want to, and pride ourselves on providing high levels of service to our teachers and support staff.

We are widely-recognised, giving us the reach we need to secure reliable work for our supply teachers.

We offer an excellent 'refer-a-friend' scheme that pays you £150 for every teacher you refer to us (after they work 10 days or more).

We pay our teachers in line with the Agency Worker Regulations (AWR) meaning you will be paid the same as a permanent employee, regardless of how many days you work.

You will have your own dedicated consultant, who is fully-trained to answer all your questions and provide ongoing support and guidance.

We will also invite you to our CPD training sessions, which are delivered by our in-house team of former senior leaders, and are entirely free to attend.
