About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Art Curator to join our team at the World Bank Group. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the World Bank's permanent collection of over 6,000 artworks, curating exhibitions, and developing and implementing art programs that promote cultural exchange and understanding.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct art historical research on exhibition topics and artworks in the Bank's collection.
  • Produce short and long-form labels for artworks on display, as well as texts for exhibitions and publications.
  • Scout for art from emerging and other artists from Bank member countries for potential acquisition, ensuring legal title for works are obtained if acquisitions are pursued.
  • Perform upkeep of the Art Program's collection database, TMS/Gallery Systems/emuseum.
  • Network with World Bank operational units, Senior Management, and other internal and external stakeholders to progress Art Program initiatives.
  • Coordinate with Real Estate team on art-related aspects of headquarters and Country Office building, renovation, and office modernization projects.
  • Support delivery of the World Bank Children's Art Prize Contest.
  • Support the Curator in developing and updating Art Program procedures and policies.
  • Support the Curator in deaccessioning artworks from the Bank's collection.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in a relevant discipline, such as art history, museum studies, art education, cultural anthropology, arts management, or related fields and strong research skills in art history, with a minimum of 8 years of experience.
  • Demonstrated skills in leading and managing large, complex projects and groups, preferably within international financial institutions or multilateral organizations.
  • Experience in budget accountability and cost tracking.
  • Possess cross-cultural management experience.
  • Ability to balance corporate/institutional perspectives with operational issues and risk concerns.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead discussions with all levels of internal and external stakeholders at senior levels.
  • Track record of intellectual leadership and ability to integrate own with other fields of expertise.
  • Ability to navigate complex policy issues with corporate significance, manage multiple complex tasks, and an ability to forge strong and effective relationships and resolve differences across organizational boundaries.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills in English, with demonstrated ability to think strategically and synthesize complex issues. Additional language skills a plus.
  • Superior organizational and logistical skills, and the ability to follow-up systematically on a broad set of initiatives and decisions.
  • Very strong interpersonal skills to work effectively in teams, with management and colleagues at all levels, with a proven ability to work across functions/boundaries, and to build bridges across different constituencies.
  • A high degree of self-motivation, positive attitude, and drive and the ability to contribute to a team-based, multi-cultural work environment.
  • Knowledge of computer software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook.
  • Experience with TMS Gallery Systems/emuseum software a plus.
