About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Public Affairs Officer to join our team at StepChange Debt Charity. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in shaping the conversation around debt and financial well-being in Scotland.

Key Responsibilities
  • Influencing and Advocacy: You will work closely with our senior leadership team to build and maintain influential relationships with government officials, policymakers, and other key stakeholders. Your goal will be to ensure that our voice is heard and that our insights drive meaningful change in public policy.
  • Engagement and Communication: You will be the face of StepChange at events, conferences, and stakeholder meetings. Whether you are speaking at a roundtable, drafting a press release, or engaging with the media, you will communicate our mission with clarity and passion.
  • Monitoring and Strategizing: You will stay on top of social policy developments, legislative changes, and media trends that impact our clients. You will use your insights to craft targeted lobbying campaigns and influence plans that resonate with Parliament and the public.
  • Writing and Reporting: You will craft compelling briefings, letters, blogs, and reports that distill complex information into digestible content for diverse audiences. Your writing will help drive our advocacy efforts and keep our stakeholders informed.
About You
  • You are an excellent communicator, capable of translating complex issues into clear, persuasive messages.
  • You have a genuine interest in social policy, particularly in areas affecting people in debt.
  • You are highly organized, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently.
  • Experience in a public affairs or influencing role, with an understanding of parliamentary processes would be beneficial.
