Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to join our dynamic Inpatient Mental Health SLT Team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in our Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit and Enhanced Care Unit.

Role Responsibilities

As a vital member of the multidisciplinary team, you will deliver specialized clinical support to the wards, focusing on a variety of assessments and interventions tailored to patients with communication, eating, drinking, and swallowing challenges. Your collaborative approach will involve working closely with patients, their families, and other healthcare professionals to establish and pursue shared objectives.

Your responsibilities will also include:

  • Fostering a communication-friendly environment on the wards.
  • Facilitating shared decision-making and conducting capacity assessments.
  • Contributing to discharge planning and providing training to staff.
  • Collaborating with the Divisional Lead SLT to enhance inpatient SLT services.
  • Offering clinical guidance to junior staff and students.

Occasional travel between various sites may be required, so the ability to travel independently is essential.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Postgraduate experience in inpatient mental health or a relevant field.
  • Dysphagia qualification and practical experience.

Desirable:

  • Experience in supervising and mentoring junior team members and students.
  • Background in providing training.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Recognized HCPC SLT qualification.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Current RCSLT registration.

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate dysphagia qualification.
