Location: Priory Hospital Barnt Green
Division: Healthcare
Salary: £75,000
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Vacancy Type: Permanent - Full Time
About the Hospital:
Priory Hospital Barnt Green is nestled within the picturesque Lickey Hills Country Park, conveniently located near a major urban center. The facility features thirty-three beds distributed across three specialized wards, including a dedicated NHS Psychiatric Intensive Care unit, a mixed-gender acute service, and private acute ward accommodations for both genders. In addition to inpatient services, the hospital boasts a comprehensive Outpatient department and regional conference facilities.
Opened recently, this is an exceptional opportunity to become part of a newly established team in a state-of-the-art facility set in a serene environment.
Role Overview:
The primary objective at Priory Hospital Barnt Green is to deliver a patient-centered approach within a therapeutic setting, fostering collaborative care planning to achieve optimal treatment outcomes. From the moment of admission, our focus is on supporting patients towards a safe discharge back into the community, enabling them to continue their recovery journey in a less restrictive environment.
This goal will be accomplished through:
- Comprehensive assessment of individual needs throughout the admission process.
- Development of personalized collaborative treatment plans.
- Access to a diverse range of interventions provided by a multidisciplinary team.
- Care delivered in the least restrictive environment possible.
The acute wards are designed to provide patients with excellent facilities, including en-suite bedrooms and communal areas equipped with various activity resources. The private ward features advanced facilities, including individual and group therapy rooms, all set in a tranquil, green environment.
The clinical team actively encourages the involvement of service users, their families, and external professionals throughout their stay. They are invited to participate in Ward Reviews and Care Programme Approach meetings to ensure effective communication throughout the care pathway, promoting individual recovery and facilitating discharge.
To maximize recovery, a wide array of therapeutic interventions is offered, integrating psychiatric and cognitive behavioral approaches with Occupational Therapy, Psychology, and recreational activities.
Job Opportunity (Clent Ward):
This position offers a unique opportunity to work on Clent Ward, where extensive medical support is provided to patients. You will collaborate closely with a full-time Consultant Psychiatrist, ensuring continuous medical coverage for patients on the ward. This is a full-time role, operating Monday to Friday.
In conjunction with the inpatient staff, you will care for patients referred to the unit through their local NHS Trust. During working hours, your responsibilities will include conducting assessments of new patients and monitoring their mental and physical health throughout the week.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting assessments, appropriate investigations, diagnoses, and treatments under consultant supervision for inpatients.
- Regularly interviewing and reassessing each patient according to their clinical needs to monitor changes and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
- Maintaining effective communication with ward staff, including daily handovers.
The successful candidate will also contribute to the development of treatment plans and programs to ensure adherence to best medical practices within a multidisciplinary team setting.
Working Hours:
General working hours are Monday to Friday, 09:00 - 17:00, with no on-call responsibilities. There is 24/7 Resident Medical Officer cover available. The RMO will assist with physical healthcare, manage new admissions, and address patients' physical health needs outside of standard working hours.
Requirements:
- Full and valid GMC registration.
- 12 months of adult psychiatry experience (preferred).
- Relevant experience in a similar setting (preferred).
- Approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act (preferred).
- Strong knowledge of the Mental Health Act and Code of Practice, as well as the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and its Code of Capacity (preferred).
- Ability to interview, assess, and treat patients while maintaining clear and comprehensive medical documentation.
- Proven record of continuing professional development.
- A positive attitude with a commitment to change, improvement, and quality.
- Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
- Evidence of post-registration continuing professional development.
