Job Summary

The Assistant Director, Child Development Center is a key member of the Southeast Community College team, responsible for assisting the Child Development Center Director in the day-to-day supervision and management of the Child Development Center. This is a full-time regular position that requires a strong background in early childhood education and experience in supervising and leading a team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Care and Safety of Child Development Center Children
    • Supervise the care and safety of children in a developmental child care setting, including the classroom, halls, play areas, and field trips.
    • Monitor and meet child/teacher ratios throughout the Child Development Center.
    • Supervise the maintenance of accurate group attendance and CACFP records.
    • Administer first aid/CPR if needed.
  • Children's Program
    • Supervise and coordinate planning, implementation, and evaluation of children's age-appropriate educational programs, routines, activities, and techniques of child guidance.
    • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of a quality early childhood education program.
  • Child Development Center Staff
    • Assist staff in preparing daily, weekly, quarterly, and yearly plans.
    • Prepare weekly staff scheduling.
  • Child Development Program Students and Instructors
    • Facilitate, coordinate, supervise, evaluate, and serve as a role model for students enrolled in the Early Childhood Education Program laboratory courses.
    • Provide feedback and guidance to students and Early Childhood Education Program instructors.
  • Parents and Community Relationships
    • Assist in administering a parent education and parent involvement program.
    • Conduct parent conferences when assigned.
  • Space and Equipment
    • Schedule the use of shared classroom space and equipment.
    • Report repair and maintenance needs to the director and Southeast Community College maintenance.
  • Enrollment and Record Maintenance
    • Maintain enrollment of Child Development Center children at established levels.
    • Maintain enrollment records.
Requirements
  • Education
    • Associate's degree in Early Childhood, Child Development, Human Development, or Early Childhood Education.
  • Experience
    • One (1) year of experience working with children in a group care setting.
    • One (1) year of supervisory experience.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Extensive knowledge of evidence-based Early Childhood Education practices and philosophies.
    • Ability to supervise and lead to create a positive and motivating Program culture.
    • CPR and First Aid Certification.
