About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Research Nurse to join our team at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW). As a Research Nurse - Clinical Trials Specialist, you will play a leading role in the planning, coordination, and completion of a portfolio of clinical trials, including some early phase trials.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the overall setup, organization, and running of clinical trials within the Clinical Trials Unit (CTU), ensuring compliance with ICH-GCP standards and Research Governance framework.
  • Coordinate arrangements for patients participating in clinical trials, according to study protocols, and communicate necessary information to relevant personnel.
  • Take day-to-day responsibility for the management of a portfolio of trials relating to site-specific areas, working in collaboration with the Data Management team and other members of the CTU team.
  • Provide leadership and motivation for staff, facilitate orientation and training programs, ensuring information about studies is available and disseminated as appropriate.
  • Professionally accountable for all actions and recognize limitations of the role.
  • Assist the Senior Research Nurses in the day-to-day management of the nursing aspects of clinical research, deputize in their absence.
  • Assist the CTU Manager and senior team in the strategic planning and development of the unit.
Requirements
  • Recent and substantial experience in Oncology/Haematology
  • Recent and substantial experience in Clinical Research
  • Knowledge of chemotherapy applied to patient toxicity management
  • Proven clinical, organizational, and managerial experience/skills
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to demonstrate clinical expertise and sound knowledge of clinical issues
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the research/audit process
Skills and Abilities
  • Able to undertake line care & venepuncture or willingness to learn
  • Interested in and willingness to take part in ongoing trial teaching programs
  • Possess good IT skills
  • Ability to support the senior research nurse and CTU manager in strategic planning and day-to-day running of the Clinical Trials Unit
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Evidence of organizational skills
  • Demonstrate advanced nursing practice; with the ability to give IV medication including chemotherapy or near completion of chemotherapy training
Qualifications and Training
  • Degree/diploma or willingness to undertake
  • Evidence of formal ongoing professional development
  • Registered Nurse Level 1
  • Current NMC Registration
