Role Overview

As the Senior User Research Lead within the Department for Work and Pensions, you will be responsible for directing research efforts in Retirement Services. Your primary focus will be to establish and uphold best practices, ensuring that high-caliber research outputs are consistently achieved. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the research strategy at both the organizational and programmatic levels, advocating for a variety of user research methodologies to effectively meet user requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement comprehensive research programs, selecting suitable methodologies that align with product and program objectives.
  • Guarantee that user research within Retirement Services is conducted efficiently and meets the established quality standards necessary to fulfill the department's strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with senior stakeholders and project teams to guide project direction, ensuring that insights from user research inform decision-making processes.
  • Lead teams in analyzing research data and synthesizing findings, prioritizing actionable insights to be integrated into the program backlog.
  • Stay abreast of the latest best practices and innovative approaches in user research, providing guidance and expertise to the team.
  • Advocate for user-centered design principles, ensuring that program decisions are grounded in user needs to enhance clarity and simplicity.
  • Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders across government and relevant organizations to influence service vision and priorities.
Candidate Profile

To be successful in this role, you should demonstrate:
  • Significant experience as a User Researcher or in a related research field, with a deep understanding of research ethics and data management.
  • A proven track record in leading research teams and a comprehensive knowledge of diverse research methodologies.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify trends and connections within research findings.
  • Expertise in designing, facilitating, and interpreting a broad spectrum of research to create a comprehensive understanding of user behavior.
  • Experience in embedding user-centered design practices within agile frameworks.
  • A commitment to inclusive research practices that engage a diverse range of users.
  • Experience in developing skills and capabilities within large, complex organizations.
