Join Our Team as a Level Designer

We are seeking a talented Level Designer to join our team at Build A Rocket Boy, an independent game developer based in Edinburgh, Scotland. As a Level Designer, you will play a crucial role in creating AAA-quality content, including multiplayer maps and single-player missions, using player-facing creation tools.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Develop Engaging Levels: Create immersive and fun game environments that align with the overall game vision.
  • Collaborate with the Team: Work with artists, programmers, and other designers to incorporate gameplay elements, logic, and aesthetics into levels.
  • Iterate and Refine: Utilize feedback from leads and directors to iterate on level design, maintaining a balance between creative aspirations and gameplay functionality.
  • Communicate Effectively: Solve problems, address risks, and ensure cohesive project progression through effective communication across teams.
  • Stay Ahead of Industry Trends: Continuously seek ways to enhance the player's experience through innovative level design.
Requirements
  • Compelling Portfolio: Showcase levels or missions created within game engines or through player-facing creation tools.
  • Strong Understanding of Level Design Principles: Demonstrate a deep understanding of what makes games enjoyable.
  • Game Engine Experience: Familiarity with game engines, such as Unreal Engine or Unity, is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Scripting or Blueprint Systems: Familiarity with scripting or blueprint systems is a significant plus.
  • Games Industry Experience: While not required, games industry experience is highly valued, especially with an outstanding portfolio.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent problem-solving skills and a self-motivated drive to overcome design challenges.
  • Effective Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Collaborative Environment: Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, adaptable to changing priorities.
