Join Our Team as a Level Designer

We're seeking a talented Level Designer to join our team at Build A Rocket Boy, an independent game developer based in Edinburgh, Scotland. As a Level Designer, you'll play a crucial role in creating engaging and immersive game environments that bring our players' experiences to life.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Develop Engaging Levels: Create AAA-quality levels that align with our game's overall vision, from concept to final implementation.
  • Collaborate with the Team: Work closely with artists, programmers, and other designers to incorporate gameplay elements, logic, and aesthetics into levels.
  • Iterate and Refine: Utilize feedback from leads and directors to iterate on level design, maintaining a balance between creative aspirations and gameplay functionality.
  • Communicate Effectively: Communicate effectively across teams to solve problems, address risks, and ensure cohesive project progression.
  • Stay Ahead of Industry Trends: Continuously seek ways to enhance the player's experience through innovative level design.
Requirements
  • Compelling Portfolio: Showcase a range of exciting and engaging level designs created within game engines or through player-facing creation tools.
  • Strong Understanding of Level Design Principles: Demonstrate a deep understanding of what makes games enjoyable and how to create engaging level designs.
  • Game Development Experience: Experience with game engines (e.g., Unreal Engine, Unity) is beneficial, but not mandatory. Familiarity with scripting or blueprint systems is a significant plus.
  • Excellent Problem-Solving Skills: Possess excellent problem-solving skills and a self-motivated drive to overcome design challenges.
  • Effective Communication Skills: Demonstrate effective communication skills, both written and verbal, in English.
  • Ability to Work Collaboratively: Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, adaptable to changing priorities.
