Position Overview

The Accounting Insights and Advisory (AIA) team plays a crucial role in the preparation of financial statements for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). A comprehensive understanding of FRS 102 and FRS 105 is vital, as much of the work involves year-end statutory accounts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare statutory financial statements, primarily under FRS 102 and FRS 105, along with management reports for various clients.
  • Assist clients with daily accounting challenges and inquiries.
  • Potential secondments to provide financial function support to clients.
  • Ensure assignments are completed to the highest standards, adhering to internal budgets, and discuss significant points with managers and clients.
  • Plan assignments in line with the firm's established procedures and confirm arrangements with clients, including anticipated costs and billing structures.
  • Take a hands-on supervisory role in assignments as needed.
  • Provide training to clients on their accounting systems.
  • Address client inquiries promptly and effectively, maintaining a client-focused approach.
  • Brief junior staff on client operations and pre-assignment instructions, supervising and controlling work completion while providing on-the-job training and feedback.
  • Implement the firm's review and completion processes, ensuring clients receive final accounts, management letters, and adjustments to opening balances in a timely manner.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with clients throughout the year, exemplifying excellent client service.
  • Coordinate with other departments, primarily audit and tax, to identify and meet all potential client needs.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the firm's specialized services, actively seeking cross-selling opportunities and undertaking special projects in response to client needs.
  • Maintain advanced technical knowledge through continuous learning and training.
  • Support the training and development of staff within the AIA department.
  • Participate in administrative departmental and office matters as necessary.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Strong understanding of UK financial reporting standards (FRS 102 and FRS 105).
  • Familiarity with accounting software such as Sage and Xero is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated commercial awareness and ability to add value.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills to engage effectively with clients and colleagues.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Proficient in accounts production; experience with CCH Accounts Production is desirable but not essential.
  • Newly qualified ACA or ACCA.
