Department: Ophthalmology

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled ophthalmologist to join our team as a Glaucoma Fellow at the Oxford Eye Hospital. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a team of experienced clinicians and researchers in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Main Duties

The postholder's duties will be primarily at the Oxford Eye Hospital, but their presence may from time to time be required in other parts of the Trust. The main duties of the job include:

  • Clinical management of patients with glaucoma
  • Laser treatment (SLT and YAG)
  • Developing skills in performing complex cataract surgery
  • Traditional glaucoma surgeries (aqueous shunts, trabeculectomy)
  • MIGS (KDB procedure, endoscopic cyclophotocoagulation, Xen implantation)

A clinical trials unit is active, and research opportunities are available and encouraged. Participation in the on-call rota is the norm, and it is not an approved training post.

Oxford University Hospitals is a teaching hospital Trust, and the post-holder will be required to participate in programmes for teaching clinical students, training junior doctors, and in clinical examinations. It is expected that this will be an integral part of everyday clinical activity. The Oxford Eye Hospital is an internationally recognized centre of excellence in research, and candidates would be expected to engage in some research activity while in post. Additional funding to attend conferences will be provided if Oxford-based research is being presented.
