Your primary responsibility will be to provide the highest standards of assistance to individuals with moderate to severe learning disabilities in all facets of their daily lives. You will help us ensure that our service is: Well-led, Safe, Caring, Effective, and Responsive.

As a Senior Support Worker, adaptability is crucial for both you and the service. We offer round-the-clock support to some individuals, necessitating your flexibility to work shifts on a rota basis, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Proficiency in IT and experience in record-keeping are essential for success in this position.

Additionally, you should possess or be willing to pursue a Diploma in Health & Social Care Level 3 (or equivalent).

Core Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Foster a culture that is responsive, inclusive, and centered around the individual.
  • Ensure that you and your support team provide the highest standards of care and assistance to each individual in our care.
  • Maintain current, comprehensive documentation that reflects the needs and preferences of individuals and their families, using it to inform daily practices.
  • Encourage individuals to engage with their community, pursue work and educational opportunities, build and maintain relationships, explore leisure activities, and express themselves in their preferred ways.
  • Conduct and document risk assessments regarding finances and other aspects of individuals' lives as necessary.
  • Promote the health, safety, and well-being of those we support while respecting their personal choices and empowering positive risk-taking.
  • Advocate for Person-Centered Active Support to maximize independence for each individual.
  • Cultivate a collaborative working environment that benefits the individuals we support.
  • Utilize IT systems effectively and assist staff in maximizing their use in their roles.
  • Uphold confidentiality at all times.
  • Being part of the community is essential for those you support; therefore, the ability to drive may be required.
  • You and your team are expected to work flexibly to meet the needs and preferences of the individuals you support, including on-call duties and occasional travel.
  • Safeguarding - Protect individuals from abuse or poor practice by completing Safeguarding Adults Training to understand how, when, and to whom to report concerns. Given the nature of the work, responsibilities can be unpredictable and varied, requiring flexibility in task management.

Essential Qualifications:

  • A Diploma in Health and Social Care Level 2 and a commitment to pursue a Diploma in Health and Social Care Level 3 while in the role.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Proven experience in effective communication.
  • Experience in monitoring and maintaining accurate records (both electronic and paper).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word) and Email.
  • Experience in managing personal and household finances.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Commitment to personal and professional development for yourself and others.
  • Attributes of sensitivity, patience, and trustworthiness.
  • Experience in conducting risk assessments.
  • Knowledge of individuals with learning disabilities and/or mental health challenges.
  • A strong value system.
  • Dedication to providing exceptional services for individuals with learning disabilities.
  • A desire to support individuals in leading independent lives.
  • Experience in supervising staff.
  • Awareness of healthy living issues.
  • Understanding of health and safety considerations.
  • Experience in promoting and utilizing new technology and personalized solutions.
  • Knowledge of food safety and personal hygiene practices.
  • Ability to assist individuals with various personal and household tasks.
  • Experience in driving cultural change within a team.
