Job Title: Surgical Care Practitioner

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Surgical Care Practitioner to join our team at A24Group Medical Staffing Agencies. This is a full-time position that offers a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, providing high-quality perioperative support to our patients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to deliver surgical interventions using advanced skills and expert knowledge.
  • Work as a first or second assistant in specialist orthopaedic surgery, providing expert support to surgeons and nursing teams.
  • Liaise with the orthopaedic nursing team and other professionals to arrange investigations and clinic appointments, ensuring seamless patient care.
  • Conduct preoperative and postoperative assessments and counseling of patients and carers, providing personalized support and guidance.
  • Prescribe medications using expertise and evidence-based practice, ensuring the highest standards of patient care.
  • Prepare discharge letters, prescriptions, and post-op advice for elective surgery, ensuring accurate and timely communication.
  • Develop and maintain theatre and surgical skills, staying up-to-date with the latest techniques and best practices.
  • Provide specialist education and training to nursing and junior medical staff, sharing expertise and knowledge to enhance patient care.
Main Duties:
  • Perform as a skilled and competent first assistant to a Consultant surgeon, providing expert support and guidance.
  • Competently perform procedures under the direct or proximal supervision of a Consultant Surgeon or appropriately experienced and competent Specialist Registrar/SHO.
  • Teach basic surgical skills to inexperienced SHOs and theatre staff, ensuring a smooth transition to more complex procedures.
  • Assess and initiate management pathways for simple lacerations, finger ligament injuries, and fractures under supervision, providing expert care and guidance.
Requirements:
  • Qualification: Degree or relevant experience in a related field.
  • Registered Nurse/ODP with a strong background in surgical care.
  • Completion of a Surgical Care Practitioner Course or equivalent.
Desirable Criteria:
  • Experience working in a theatre environment, with a strong understanding of surgical procedures and protocols.
  • Orthopaedic experience, with a focus on specialist surgery and patient care.
  • Skills in SFA (Surgical First Assistant) procedures, with a strong understanding of surgical techniques and best practices.
  • Non-medical prescribing qualifications, with a focus on patient-centered care and medication management.
  • Clinical skills, with a strong understanding of patient assessment and care planning.
  • Surgical skills, with a focus on theatre procedures and patient safety.
