Our organization is seeking a skilled Accountant with outstanding interpersonal abilities to step into the role of Junior Business Partner on a temporary basis. While formal qualifications are not mandatory, candidates should be pursuing relevant certifications and possess substantial experience in a similar capacity. In this position, you will engage in regular discussions with senior personnel across various departments to oversee their financial performance.
Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in routine meetings with budget managers and stakeholders to evaluate financial forecasts against established budgets, proactively identifying challenges and offering explanations for discrepancies as necessary.
  • Track actual financial performance and advise the Faculty/School PVC/Director and other senior staff on necessary adjustments to planned expenditures in response to evolving circumstances.
  • Deliver timely, precise, and pertinent management information to budget managers and stakeholders in a focused and user-friendly manner, facilitating effective budget and project management (Research/Enterprise) and informed decision-making.
  • Collaborate with Executive Leadership Team and budget managers to empower them in managing their budgets effectively and ensuring accountability, providing training and guidance as needed.
  • Prepare and enter accruals/prepayments for month-end financial reporting.
  • Generate Power BI reports to enhance the information provided to budget managers.
  • Assist staff in estimating costs for potential new Research and Enterprise initiatives in collaboration with the Finance Business Operations.
  • Ensure that project costings for externally funded initiatives comply with sponsor requirements and that proposed budgets are accurately calculated and presented for approval.
  • Coordinate with Research and Enterprise Project Managers to ensure project budgets are accurately phased and income is categorized appropriately to meet the strategic goals of the organization.
  • Work with the Finance Business Operations team to ensure relevant information is available and accurately recorded to satisfy the needs of external funders and regulators.
  • Develop and sustain business partnering networks across departments to enhance financial management standards and decision-making information.
  • Contribute to ongoing improvements to strengthen financial stewardship and control, enhancing the skills of budget managers and fostering relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure that all costs and income are accurately recorded in the financial system and that any necessary correction journals are processed, addressing the root causes of any discrepancies.
  • Complete year-end procedures and schedules in line with the established timetable and assist in preparing the organization's statutory accounts.
Qualifications
  • 5+ Years of Accounting Experience.
  • Exceptional Interpersonal Skills.
  • Possess a valid ACCA, ACA, CIMA, or ICAS Qualification (or be actively pursuing one).
  • Prior experience in a comparable role.
  • Ability to manage your own workload effectively.
