The Wall Street Journal is seeking a highly skilled and experienced photo editor to join our international team. As a key member of our photo department, you will be responsible for working with photographers, editors, and reporters to produce high-quality visual content for our global audience.
Key Responsibilities:- Work closely with photographers and editors to assign and produce photo stories for our international coverage.
- Collaborate with the international reporting and editing teams to ensure timely and accurate visual coverage of breaking news and enterprise stories.
- Drive visual coverage in the international time zone, anticipating photographic and other needs as stories develop.
- Assign photography, working with photographers, editors, and reporters to tell narrative, investigative, breaking news, and enterprise stories on all platforms, including mobile and print.
- Follow department guidelines and safety protocols in working with photographers and subjects.
- Promote a diverse and exciting group of photographers and subjects, with an eye to building new audiences for our journalism.
- Pitch visually innovative and original projects and approaches to digital story production, demonstrating an understanding of the different platforms and audiences.
- Work with platform and off-platform editors to surface the work strategically across all platforms.
- Maintain a budget effectively, working with your Manager.
- At least 5 years of experience in a photo editing role, with a strong network of international photographers and sources.
- Proven deep research skills and experience with news gathering and research tools, including Storyful, Factiva, and Satellite research.
- Knowledge of web tools and programs, including content management systems, Photoshop, PhotoMechanic, video editing tools, FTP, and social media tools.
- Motivation to work independently as well as with a team, with strong organizational and communication skills.
- The initiative to take on and learn new tasks in a fast-moving environment.
