Position: Senior Electrical and Instrumentation Project Engineer

Role Overview:
This position serves as the technical authority for all Instrumentation and Electrical installations across capital projects at the designated sites. The focus is on ensuring that all designs and implementations adhere to the established engineering standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as the site Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all CAPEX designs and installations related to Electrical and Instrumentation.
  • Oversee contract E&I discipline engineers, ensuring compliance with business standards.
  • Manage the project EPC contractor to ensure their designs align with site standards and provide timely responses to Technical Queries (TQs).
  • Ensure comprehensive scoping of all CAPEX projects concerning proposed E&I activities.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance and Compliance teams to align E&I proposals with site requirements.
  • Accountable for budget oversight and reporting for all projects under management.
  • Ensure compliance with Functional Safety on CAPEX projects, adhering to the Functional Safety Lifecycle requirements of IEC 61508, including design verification, installation, and system certification.
  • Assess new E&I equipment for Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality impacts, identifying appropriate Preventive Maintenance tasks.
  • Identify and order critical spares for new installations.
  • Provide technical input to update current site standards, ensuring alignment with best practices.
  • Effectively plan resources for all E&I activities on CAPEX projects.
  • Update IS calculations and loop drawings for all CAPEX projects.
  • Offer hands-on support during project handovers.
  • Facilitate training for operational teams on new installations.
  • Ensure all project I & E activities meet qualification and quality obligations.
  • Provide technical guidance across departments, including root cause analysis, troubleshooting, and fault finding for E&I issues.
  • Offer ad-hoc technical support to maintenance and compliance teams for ongoing operational challenges.
  • Perform any additional duties within the employee's skills and abilities as reasonably instructed.

Scope of Role:
  • Covers Capital Projects across designated sites.
  • Involves projects within a 1-3 year planning horizon, with support for execution in the immediate term.
  • Requires strong planning, organization, and computer skills.
  • Demands excellent multitasking and time management abilities.
  • Involves collaboration with external contractors, internal teams, and operational departments.
  • Holds budget responsibilities for projects potentially exceeding £1 million, as well as multiple projects ranging from £25k to £500k.

Special Considerations:
  • May require extended hours or weekend work to ensure project delivery during critical shutdown periods.
  • Involves regular travel between sites to monitor project progress.

Candidate Profile:
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Qualified in Electrical, Instrumentation & Control – preferably chartered.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering complex engineering E&I projects.
  • Familiarity with permit to work systems, including working at height and confined spaces.
  • Experience in project budget control and reporting.
  • Proven leadership of a team of E&I engineers in a project environment.
  • Experience with installations in hazardous areas (ATEX).
  • Functional safety experience is desirable.
  • NEBOSH or other safety qualifications are advantageous.
  • Experience with site commissioning and fault finding is essential.

Personal Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in computer applications (Word, OneNote, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Ability to effectively engage with external and internal contractors.
