In-Life Commercial Management Specialist

Role Overview
As a key member of our team, you will report directly to the Senior Manager for In-Life Commercial. Your primary responsibility will be to oversee the commercial management of all agreements, ensuring that our operations run smoothly and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Take full ownership of the Commercial Audit function across all partners and agreements, focusing on the recovery of misallocated expenditures identified through both field and desktop audits. You will also be responsible for educating both internal and external stakeholders to prevent future discrepancies.
- Manage the Non-Standards function across all partners and agreements, conducting thorough assessments of expenditures not covered by contractual charges. This includes benchmarking against industry standards to maintain market competitiveness.
- Act as the Subject Matter Expert for our Departure From Estimate (DFE) governance processes, serving as the primary contact for partner escalations and ensuring issues are resolved effectively.
- Facilitate the resolution of estimate blocks for Job Comp/Eng Comp, enabling timely processing of payments or addressing challenges with partners.
- Provide in-life commercial governance, enhancing the education of our partners and internal stakeholders to proactively mitigate commercial challenges and their impact on cash flow.
Relationship Management
Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across various teams, including Partners, Procurement, Planning, Operations, and Finance (up to Director level).
- Collaborate closely with the Openreach Partner Manager to achieve holistic resolutions for in-life issues and participate in Partner Performance Review Boards as needed.
- Engage directly with partner commercial teams and the Commercial Director to address contractual matters and facilitate cost recovery.
- Work alongside Procurement and the In-Life Change Team to implement change control for strategic resolution of contractual challenges.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to triage and resolve in-life issues, challenging where necessary.
- Prepare briefings that outline key commercial issues for internal finance and operational teams, ensuring controlled governance.
- Maintain effective communication with Partner Commercial Managers to ensure prompt handling of all cost recoveries.
- Ensure efficient resolution of DFE, Non-Standards, and Commercial Audit issues to prevent any disruption to service delivery.
- Share insights and learning experiences with Partner Commercial Managers to address pan-partner issues.
- Interface with Sourcing during the transition of new in-life activities.
- Exhibit strong people management skills.
Essential Qualifications
- A BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying or a related field, along with MRICS qualification.
- Experience in a civil engineering context, preferably within the utilities sector.
- A comprehensive understanding of the broader construction industry and its regulations.
- Experience in a collaborative or partnering environment.
- Demonstrated leadership and people management capabilities.
- Strong financial acumen and practical knowledge of civil engineering technologies.
- A proven track record of managing and influencing senior stakeholders.
- Exceptional presentation skills across various formats: written, spoken, and visual.
- Ability to juggle multiple conflicting priorities while managing stakeholder expectations.
- Proficient in identifying improvement opportunities and conducting root cause analysis.
- A valid UK driving license and willingness to travel as necessary.
