Overview of the Role and Team
We are looking for a driven and seasoned Lead Internal Audit Strategist to become a vital part of our innovative and collaborative Internal Audit division. This team, comprising 14 professionals across the UK and the US, is dedicated to providing proactive assurance, insights, and recommendations that empower Pearson to meet its strategic goals. The Lead Internal Audit Strategist will report directly to the VP of Internal Audit & Controls Compliance, paving the way for potential advancement into a Director position. In this senior role, you will be responsible for overseeing the execution of various financial and operational audits within our portfolio. You will take full ownership of the audits assigned to you, ensuring that key audit deliverables are reviewed and finalized for presentation to the Director or VP of Internal Audit. Your strong communication abilities and adaptability will be essential in fostering the robust partnerships we value with key stakeholders and other departments. You will motivate team members to explore how we can optimally support Pearson in achieving its strategic objectives. Although this position does not include direct reports, you will be expected to manage audit delivery teams, ensuring that colleagues receive support for their development during assignments and constructive feedback post-audit.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the Internal Audit Leadership team to formulate the annual audit strategy, ensuring comprehensive coverage of Pearson's principal risks. Assume full accountability for the execution of assigned audits within the portfolio, acting as the audit lead or review lead based on the complexity and size of the audits. Engage with stakeholders to develop and negotiate practical and commercially viable recommendations. Cultivate, maintain, and leverage relationships with key stakeholders. Work in partnership with other members of the Internal Audit Leadership team to effectively utilize departmental resources in alignment with Internal Audit priorities. Inspire, guide, and develop Internal Audit team members in accordance with the department's vision and talent management strategy. Lead the delivery of one or two strategic priority projects. Establish and uphold a robust internal audit methodology that complies with professional standards. Stay informed about emerging risks and trends in internal audit, ensuring the function remains relevant and anticipates new challenges. Collaborate with other departments to foster a culture of risk awareness and control.Work Environment:
This role operates on a hybrid working model, with the expectation of working from the London office at least once a week.
Desired Qualifications:
A minimum of 7 years of experience in audit and/or assurance across various organizations or sectors. This position is ideal for experienced managers with a strong financial operations background transitioning from practice to industry. Familiarity with major control frameworks (COSO, ISO), UK and US corporate governance, as well as internal audit standards and methodologies. Exceptional leadership, team-building, and development capabilities, with a proven ability to set clear objectives and drive results. Demonstrated effectiveness in communicating and collaborating across all organizational levels. Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills. Proven influencing skills and sound business judgment. ACA/ACCA (or equivalent) certification is required.Benefits and Rewards:
