Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled pharmacist to become an integral part of our collaborative pharmacy team, focusing on Medication Safety and Antimicrobial Management.

Northamptonshire Healthcare Foundation Trust is a comprehensive mental health and community service provider. Our organization delivers care across various settings, including mental health facilities and community services, ensuring a holistic approach to health and well-being.

This role is crucial within the Pharmacy Department, where the successful candidate will assist the Medication Safety Officer and Chief Pharmacist in advancing the agenda for medication safety.

In collaboration with the Medicines Safety Officer (MSO), you will be responsible for the development, implementation, and enhancement of the medication safety initiatives within the Trust. Additionally, you will lead and evaluate efforts related to antimicrobial management and infection control, adhering to both local and national guidelines to promote the safe and effective use of antimicrobials.

Key Responsibilities

Your primary duties will include:

  • Supporting the MSO in coordinating medication-related Clinical Governance activities across the Trust, ensuring that governance of medication management is seamlessly integrated within the organization.
  • Facilitating the operations of the Trust Medicines Safety Group to generate comprehensive medication safety communications.
  • Collaborating with the infection prevention and control team and key healthcare professionals to develop a robust antimicrobial management strategy and analyze prescribing data.
  • Providing clinical pharmacy services to designated wards within the Trust, reporting directly to the Deputy Chief Pharmacist.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) as a Pharmacist.
  • Possession of an MPharm degree or an equivalent pharmacy qualification.
  • A post-graduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent knowledge and experience.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.

Desirable:

  • Membership in the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.

Experience:

Essential:

  • Post-registration experience within the NHS environment.
  • Experience working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in planning, executing, analyzing, and reporting on practice changes through audit.
  • Experience in teaching, mentoring, and guiding others.
  • Competence in data collection, analysis, and report generation.

Desirable:

  • Experience in prescribing within a specialty to optimize medication for specific patient demographics.
  • Experience in investigating incidents related to medication safety.
  • Management qualifications relevant to the NHS.
  • Experience in developing and implementing medication management policies and procedures.
