Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Consultant in Emergency Medicine to join our dynamic and supportive team at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital. This role is pivotal in ensuring the delivery of exceptional patient care and advancing the Emergency Medicine services within our organization.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Delivering senior clinical services to the Emergency Department as outlined in the job plan.
- Providing clinical leadership and ensuring the provision of safe and effective patient care.
- Leading initiatives for service design and development, particularly in pre-operative patient assessment.
- Collaborating with colleagues and nursing staff to optimize resource utilization and contribute to clinical governance.
- Participating actively in the teaching and training of medical trainees and other healthcare professionals.
Organizational Responsibilities
In addition to clinical duties, the consultant will:
- Mentor junior staff and medical students, acting as a clinical and educational supervisor.
- Engage in departmental and Trust-wide Clinical Governance and audit activities.
- Lead the development of clinical protocols and guidelines to enhance patient care.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety training and maintain a safe environment for all.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential Qualifications
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- FRCEM or equivalent experience.
- Current certification in ATLS, ALS, APLS/EPLS or equivalent, with at least one at instructor level.
Essential Experience
- Full registration and a license to practice with the General Medical Council.
- Proven ability to take full responsibility for the clinical care of patients in the Emergency Department.
