Your Responsibilities:

As a Software Development Manager, you will:

  • Oversee multiple teams of skilled Engineers dedicated to delivering high-quality code and solving complex engineering challenges.
  • Serve as a hands-on 2nd line Engineering team manager, dedicating approximately 60% of your time to people management, recruitment, and team organization, while the remaining 40% focuses on design reviews, sprint planning, and Agile methodologies.
  • Collaborate with peers across Engineering, Product Management, Operations, Support, and Human Resources to facilitate the successful delivery of cross-functional projects and address technical and resource-related challenges.
  • Mentor and support the professional and technical growth of your team members, aligning projects with their skills, personalities, and career aspirations.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, inclusivity, and mutual respect within your teams.
  • Provide ongoing feedback, address performance issues, and recognize the unique strengths and contributions of each team member.
  • Promote a mindset of continuous improvement in the team's code, architecture, and processes.
  • Work closely with Product Managers, Test Managers, and Engineers to maintain a prioritized backlog and establish both short-term and long-term objectives for your team.
  • Encourage your team to build strong relationships across functions such as Support, Operations, and Testing to ensure the ongoing success of Global Relay.
  • Advocate for information security and best practices in secure coding.

Qualifications:

  • A degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or a comparable combination of education and relevant experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience as a hands-on 1st line Software Development Manager or Team Lead, managing a team of three or more.
  • Over 8 years of software development experience, delivering enterprise-grade software using various languages and frameworks.
  • Significant experience in people management and a proven track record in recruiting and building a software development team.
  • Expertise in developing and managing large, scalable distributed services, complex databases, microservices, and APIs within service-oriented architectures.
  • Familiarity with large complex databases and managing data quality and lifecycle challenges.
  • Knowledge of modern frameworks and techniques for building web application user interfaces.
  • Experience with Android and iOS development, Swift, Swift UI, Kotlin, and REST APIs is a plus.
