About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Research Assistant to join our team at UK Biobank. As a key member of our laboratory operations team, you will play a critical role in optimizing our laboratory workflows and supporting the implementation of new processes and equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process Optimization
    • Improve existing laboratory processes and implement new ones to enhance efficiency and productivity.
    • Refine and develop processes using lean methodologies to minimize waste and maximize value.
    • Design, perform, train, and supervise new processes to ensure seamless implementation.
    • Support the procurement process by liaising with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of equipment and materials.
    • Ensure compliance of new processes or equipment implemented to internal and external standards.
    • Generate reports and plans for the implementation of new processes, including risk assessments.
  • Technology Solutions
    • Advise on technology solutions to support laboratory operations, including evaluating new equipment and software.
    • Keep up-to-date with new technology and equipment that could support our current and future goals.
  • Laboratory Equipment Support
    • Develop and deliver training on current and new equipment to laboratory team members.
    • Support equipment troubleshooting and develop documentation to support this process.
    • Establish ongoing performance monitoring of equipment and processes, particularly critical processes related to ISO20387.
    • Regularly communicate with stakeholders, including internal teams and external partners.
Requirements
  • A BSc in a relevant field, such as Life Science, Biotechnology, or a related discipline.
  • Laboratory experience working with a wide variety of laboratory equipment.
  • Experience in troubleshooting laboratory equipment and resolving technical issues.
  • Knowledge of automation technologies and their applications in laboratory settings.
  • Problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with a natural curiosity and creative thinking.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an aptitude for IT and technology.
