We are seeking an experienced Mortgage Underwriter to join our team at Kensington Mortgage Company. As a key member of our underwriting team, you will be responsible for manually underwriting and approving residential and buy-to-let mortgage applications in accordance with our lending policy, TCF principles, and FCA responsible lending best practice.
Key Responsibilities- Manually underwrite and approve mortgage applications, ensuring all cases are thoroughly reviewed and documented.
- Act as a subject matter expert, providing guidance and support to colleagues and stakeholders on underwriting matters.
- Collaborate with other areas of the business to ensure seamless service delivery to clients and maintain high levels of proactive co-operation and approachability.
- Ensure all correspondence, including references and valuations, is in line with lending policy and mortgage product requirements.
- Act fairly and reasonably in dealings with intermediaries, solicitors, and valuers, adhering to TCF and responsible lending principles.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to enhance the underwriting process and improve quality and service measures.
- Comply with the Code of Business Ethics and ensure responsibilities regarding the Prevention of Financial Crime are carried out effectively.
- Stay up-to-date with human resource policy, external legislation, funding constraints, product criteria, and underwriting criteria changes to ensure prudent underwriting.
- Experience in prime and specialist lending as an underwriter, holding a mandate of £250k minimum for a minimum of 2 years.
- Ability to demonstrate integrity, treat customers fairly, and maintain a high level of relevant industry knowledge.
- Detailed understanding of the mortgage intermediary market and related FCA permissions.
- Detailed understanding of organised fraud and measures/systems in place to avoid it.
- Proactive, hardworking, flexible, and able to work under own initiative but also a team player.
- Demonstrate a full understanding of TCF, responsible lending, and regulatory knowledge applicable to the role.
