Position Overview

A prominent educational institution with a substantial staff and a diverse student body is in search of a Teaching Assistant to contribute to the Special Educational Needs Department. This role is essential for the daily management and effective functioning of the SEND provision within the school environment.
This position is particularly suited for recent graduates contemplating a future in education. The institution is a founding member of a prestigious teacher training partnership, recognized for its excellence in teacher education. If selected, you will receive personalized guidance to assist with your journey towards becoming a qualified educator. While this role does not guarantee a commitment to teacher training, it offers a one-year fixed-term contract, allowing you to explore your aspirations in the teaching profession.
Your working hours will total 30.5 hours per week, across 39 weeks each academic year (term time plus one additional week).
Candidates with degrees in Mathematics, English, or Science are preferred, although applicants with expertise in other subjects will also be considered.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate within the Special Educational Needs Department to ensure the smooth operation of SEND services.

  • Actively implement the school's vision and policies in conjunction with the SEND Lead Practitioner.
  • Create a safe and engaging learning environment that fosters mutual respect.

  • Build respectful relationships with students while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills (minimum of grade C at GCSE or equivalent) in English Language and Mathematics.
  • Experience in an educational setting.
  • Familiarity with specific areas of Special Educational Needs.
  • Ability to assess learning needs and pursue opportunities for professional development.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young individuals.
  • Capability to establish and maintain suitable relationships with children and young people.
  • Adaptation of ICT resources to meet individual student requirements.
  • Understanding of the national curriculum and relevant educational programs.
