About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pediatric Emergency Department Team Lead to join our team at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. As a Junior Sister/Charge Nurse, you will play a critical role in the management and coordination of the Pediatric Emergency Department, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Management
    • Take charge of shifts within the Pediatric Department and support the Band 7 team leader with management of the team.
    • Manage the clinical workload effectively, ensuring care is prioritized appropriately.
    • Contribute positively towards the delivery of a cost-effective service, adjusting staffing levels to meet demand and assisting the ward manager to keep within agreed resources.
  • Clinical Practice
    • Adhere to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and adhere to this at all times.
    • Demonstrate clinical expertise in the care of any patients receiving treatment in the ward/department.
    • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the needs of patients on the ward on an ongoing basis, coordinating the care given by all members of the clinical team.
  • Education and Research
    • Act as a mentor to junior staff members, responsible for the orientation, supervision, and ongoing development of junior and student nurses, in conjunction with the Line Manager and Practice Development staff.
    • Act as a practice supervisor, responsible for completing competency documents for junior staff within agreed timeframes.
  • Management
    • Manage the clinical workload effectively, ensuring care is prioritized appropriately.
    • Contribute positively towards the delivery of a cost-effective service, adjusting staffing levels to meet demand and assisting the ward manager to keep within agreed resources.
  • Personal Professional Development
    • Work within and accept responsibility for maintaining agreed levels of clinical competence.
    • Keep up to date with NMC, Trust, and Care Group policies and guidelines and adhere to these at all times.
  • People Management and Performance
    • Lead, coach, and manage the performance of the team in line with good people management practices, ensuring excellence is recognized and underperformance is addressed.
    • Participate in regular performance appraisal meetings and ensure each member of the team has a clear set of objectives and development plans.
Requirements
  • 1st level Registered Paediatric Nurse
  • Mentorship programme or equivalent teaching qualification
  • Demonstrable clinical expertise, relevant to the area
  • Able to contribute to the development of students, nurses, and oneself
  • Communication skills - able to relate and communicate with patients and staff at all levels and from different professions
  • Team building and working skills - able to lead a team to achieve results
