Senior Psychiatric Consultant

Northampton, Northamptonshire, United Kingdom St Andrew's Healthcare Full time

Overview of the Position

Ideal for a seasoned Consultant or an individual nearing the completion of their CCT within the next six months.

Employment Type: Full Time (flexible arrangements including part-time options will be considered)

Compensation: Comprehensive package reaching up to £150,000 based on experience

We are seeking a professional who is enthusiastic about working with individuals diagnosed with autism within our dedicated transition service.

St Andrew's Healthcare operates as a charitable organization, reinvesting any surplus back into our services. We are integral members of the Specialist Provider Collaboratives across the East and West Midlands and part of the East Midlands Alliance. Our facilities in Northampton are situated within over 150 acres of lush woodland and encompass five divisions: Medium Secure, Low Secure, Specialist Rehabilitation, Learning Disability and Autism, Neuropsychiatry, and CAMHS. We offer several unique national services, including our Deaf Forensic Service, Huntington's Service, Secure Brain Injury Service, Older Adults Secure Services, Blended Women's Service (one of three National Pilots), and a specialized inpatient DBT service.

Make a meaningful impact for yourself and your patients

We are looking for an individual who desires a role that allows for autonomy in decision-making to enhance patient care and outcomes, with a strong commitment to transforming care. This position is for someone eager to join an organization and lead a team that shares this vision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Opportunities for career advancement; many of our senior medical managers began their journey as Consultants within the charity.
  • Support from a Specialty Doctor and Physical Healthcare team.
  • Rare non-resident second on-call duties, with 24-hour first on-call support.
  • Sponsorship for select doctors to pursue MBA qualifications.
  • Engage with a community of over 30 Consultants and 8 Clinical Directors on-site, participating in a weekly multidisciplinary CPD and Grand Rounds program that includes NHS colleagues.
  • Pathways to progress into roles such as Medical Director, Clinical Director, Associate Director of Medical Education, Chief Quality Officer, or Lead Psychiatrist within the same location.
  • Assistance in undertaking indemnified private practice and medicolegal work through our community partnerships.
  • Potential for joint roles with the NHS in specific areas.
  • Teaching opportunities for medical students from prestigious institutions as well as Trainees.
  • Research opportunities in collaboration with our Research and Innovation Team.
  • Leading-edge analytics and data monitoring integrated with our Electronic Records.
  • Electronic Prescribing available across all wards.
  • £1000 dedicated study allowance.
  • Centrally located in the UK with excellent transport links and access to quality schools and affordable housing.
  • Support and mentorship from a Clinical Director, Lead Psychiatrist, and fellow Consultants, along with a dedicated Specialty doctor and administrative team.

About the Role

The Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Service in Northampton presents an opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to enhance their expertise within autism services while developing clinical and research initiatives. We are dedicated to facilitating the transition of patients into the community as swiftly as possible, supported by several tailored properties on-site designed for individuals moving from hospital to community settings. Your caseload may include working with these patients to prepare them for their next steps.

If you are interested in collaborating with an innovative and dynamic team, developing and implementing contemporary treatment approaches, and thriving in a supportive environment, this position is tailored for you. The post-holder will have the opportunity to engage in non-clinical activities of interest, including research, teaching, governance, and management, thereby influencing service direction to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

You will lead a multidisciplinary team and oversee the management of patients with complex needs, fostering innovation and service improvement while expanding your specialist interests and responsibilities. You will be provided with an office and the support of an Associate Specialist as ward doctor, along with a full MDT, including Clinical Administrators and Personal Assistants dedicated to your wards and service.

Additional Benefits

The role includes a travel allowance, a £1000 annual study allowance, pension contributions, 33 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, free parking, a sickness policy aligned with NHS standards, secretarial support, and more.

International Medical Graduates

We welcome applications from candidates requiring current Skilled Worker sponsorship to work in the UK, and you will be considered alongside all other applicants.
