The Role

We are seeking to appoint a Commercial Legal Associate/Senior Associate to join our dynamic Commercial team in Exeter.

This department provides a comprehensive suite of corporate and commercial legal services, addressing a wide array of commercial issues for business clients, ranging from start-ups and SMEs to larger corporations and family-owned enterprises, as well as various public sector entities. Our team also assists public sector clients with commercial challenges, including outsourcing, public sector companies, and commercialization strategies.

As part of a high-performing national and expanding regional team, the successful candidate will provide legal counsel to clients across diverse sectors on a variety of commercial matters.

The Corporate/Commercial department is supported by specialists from other areas, including banking, tax, employment, and intellectual property.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing legal advice on a variety of commercial agreements;
  • Drafting essential commercial documents and advising on sector-specific risks;
  • Offering guidance on partnership and joint venture agreements;
  • Advising on outsourcing arrangements;
  • Addressing day-to-day commercial inquiries from our diverse client base;
  • Supporting General Counsel on critical business projects within designated timelines;
  • Familiarity with GDPR, EU procurement, and public law is advantageous but not mandatory;
  • Building and maintaining effective client relationships;
  • Ensuring compliance with Lexcel procedures in file management;
  • Participating in promotions and co-managing quarterly evaluations; attending periodic meetings to discuss strategy, marketing, and inter-office collaboration.
  • Actively engaging in department and firm-wide marketing initiatives.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for a qualified solicitor with 3-8 years of post-qualification experience in a broad range of corporate and commercial matters. The ideal candidate will possess:
