This role presents an exciting opportunity for a proactive, organized, and self-driven individual to join our esteemed Environmental Protection Team.
The successful candidate will primarily focus on land contamination projects, but may also support other areas within the team. Previous experience in land contamination, whether from a regulatory or non-regulatory perspective, is highly desirable.
The team’s responsibilities include air quality management, land contamination oversight, private water supply regulation, and environmental permitting. We encourage flexible and hybrid working arrangements to promote a balanced lifestyle.
Key responsibilities include:
- Executing statutory duties under Part 2A of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
- Addressing land contamination service inquiries.
- Reviewing planning applications.
- Managing geographical information systems.
- Conducting site visits, either independently or collaboratively with other officers or agencies.
As part of the broader Regulatory Services and Health Team, the Environmental Compliance Officer will collaborate closely with Planning, Highways, Building Control, and Public Health to enhance service delivery. Opportunities for personal development and training, both internally and externally, will be available.
Strong communication skills are essential, as the successful candidate will need to convey technical information to diverse audiences, many of whom may lack a scientific background.
A relevant environmental degree is required, along with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and manage competing priorities.
