Exciting Opportunity at University Hospitals Birmingham

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our dynamic team at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust. As a key member of our Adult Speech and Language Therapy service, you will play a vital role in delivering outstanding care to patients with complex communication and swallowing needs.

About the Role

This is a new and exciting opportunity to work within our friendly and supportive therapy team, assisting in the lead of the stroke SLT services based at Birmingham Heartlands and Good Hope Hospital. You will be working closely with a large and experienced team, providing expert care and guidance to patients, families, and healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality speech and language therapy services to adults with complex communication and swallowing needs
  • Lead and manage a team of SLTs, providing guidance and support to ensure excellent patient care
  • Develop and implement effective communication strategies to improve patient outcomes
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless care pathways
  • Contribute to the development of the SLT service, identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes
Requirements
  • Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
  • Registered Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
  • Evidence of relevant postgraduate training in specialist area
  • Leadership training
  • Postgraduate advanced accredited dysphagia training
  • Relevant postgraduate experience in key specialist areas relevant to the post
  • Experience of management of adults with complex swallowing / communication needs
  • Experience of SLT students at clinical tutor and supervisor levels
  • Experience of training staff groups at all levels
  • Good working knowledge of national policies and procedures (relevant to the client group) and their implications for SLT
  • Understanding of the impact of local cultural, linguistic and demographic factors influencing service
  • Car driver. Able to meet the travel requirements of the position
  • Flexible to work between sites
