About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Advanced Pharmacist to join our Medicines Optimisation Team at NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in improving the cost-effective and evidence-based use of medicines across our locality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement Medicines Optimisation initiatives, policy, and strategy documents to promote clinically effective and cost-effective prescribing at a practice level.
  • Lead projects on medicines optimisation that deliver Cost Improvement Plans (CIPs), cost-effective use of medicines, and related products/services.
  • Influence and negotiate change with hospital pharmacists, clinicians, and community pharmacy to promote and implement rational prescribing across primary and secondary care.
  • Present complex and contentious information to internal and external groups and committees as part of developing, agreeing, and implementing Medicines Optimisation initiatives, policies, and strategies.
  • Influence and negotiate change with GPs and practice staff in relation to complex medicines optimisation issues.
  • Provide highly specialised advice on medicines optimisation to support pathway and service redesign as part of ICB service development and transformation work.
  • Actively participate in prescribing groups across the health economy, as agreed with the Head of Medicines Optimisation and Principal Pharmacist, and represent Kirklees Health and Care Partnership for medicines optimisation issues.
  • Provide highly specialist advice on medicines optimisation in response to queries from healthcare professionals, practice staff, patients, carers, and the public.
Person Specification
  • Excellent understanding of Medicines Optimisation Issues, including national legislation and guidelines and policy.
  • Knowledge of current primary care issues and structures.
  • Experience of communicating and engaging effectively with external agencies and stakeholders.
  • Experience of leading and managing staff.
  • Previous experience of working in primary care.
  • Some understanding and knowledge of the workings of the NHS and the challenges it faces and of the reform agenda.
  • Knowledge and experience of programme and/or project management.
  • Strong commitment to patient care and quality services and improving outcomes and tackling health inequalities.
  • Strong commitment to delivering the best value for money for the taxpayer.
  • Able to analyse and interpret complex data to draw conclusions.
  • Able to provide, receive, convey, and present information in a clear way.
  • Able to think on feet when dealing with issues and problems.
  • Team player committed to open collegiate relationships and corporate effectiveness.
  • Integrity and ability to engender trust and respect from colleagues at all levels.
  • Able to effectively manage resources - financial and others - to ensure delivery of a service or project.
  • Masters degree in pharmacy (MPharm) or previous equivalent.
  • Current registration with GPhC.
  • Extensive specialist knowledge of medicines optimisation acquired through postgraduate diploma or equivalent experience or training plus further specialist knowledge or experience to masters level equivalent.
