Job Title: Learning Support Assistant

Job Type: Full-Time

Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join our team at GSL Education. As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting children with special educational needs in a dynamic and inclusive school environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting Students with Special Needs: Provide social, emotional, and academic support to students with a range of special educational needs, including autism, learning difficulties, speech, language, and communication needs, and social, emotional, and mental health needs.
  • Promoting Independence: Encourage and support students to develop life skills, such as cooking and everyday finances, to promote independence and self-reliance.
  • Collaboration with Teachers: Work closely with class teachers to develop sensory, speech, language, and communication needs, and to implement strategies to support students' learning and development.
  • Behaviour Management: Manage behaviours within the classroom, identify triggers, and use de-escalation techniques to create a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Personal Care Support: Assist with personal care needs as required, ensuring the dignity and well-being of students at all times.

Requirements:

  • Qualifications: Hold a Level 2 qualification or higher, such as an NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care.
  • Experience: Have at least 6 months of experience supporting children or young people with additional needs in a care or school setting.
  • Communication Skills: Be a strong and engaging communicator, able to build positive relationships with students, teachers, and other stakeholders.
  • Compassion and Empathy: Demonstrate compassion, caring, and a genuine desire to help young people overcome their barriers and achieve their full potential.
  • Safeguarding: Hold a DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
